‘Absurdly woke’: Google’s AI chatbot spits out ‘diverse’ images of Founding Fathers, popes, Vikings

Google's AI chatbot Gemini, known for its image generation feature, recently faced criticism for producing historically incorrect images.
Critics labeled it as overly "woke" for rendering diverse versions of historical figures such as female popes, black Vikings, and female NHL players, despite these not aligning with historical facts.

For example, when The Post requested an image of a pope, the chatbot returned images of a Southeast Asian woman and a black man, instead of any of the historically accurate white male pontiffs.

Similarly, images of America's Founding Fathers generated by Gemini depicted black and Native American figures, a stark contrast to the all-white group from 1789. Google stated it aimed for a broader, inclusive representation but acknowledged the inaccuracy and is working on correction measures.

Critics, including Ian Miles Cheong and Frank J. Fleming, have publicly challenged the AI's results, highlighting its inability to accurately reflect historical figures and contexts. Even Nate Silver expressed surprise upon receiving an image of a female hockey player from the male-only NHL.

Google has admitted the experimental nature of its AI tools and their susceptibility to producing misleading information. This follows historical incidents such as falsely claiming a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and poses questions about AI contributing to misinformation online.

Misleading information? This is a travesty. America is trying to erase racism instead AI is growing the plague. This is so harmful to the problem that google should be issued a permanent cease and desist order.
