Anonymous Plaintiff Dismisses Rape Allegations Against Jay-Z and Sean 'Diddy' Combs
A federal court filing confirms the plaintiff's decision to dismiss her civil lawsuit with prejudice, while Combs faces ongoing criminal charges.
An anonymous woman, referred to in court documents as Jane Doe, has voluntarily dismissed her civil lawsuit against Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter and Sean 'Diddy' Combs, which alleged that she was raped by the two music industry figures in 2000 when she was 13 years old.
The dismissal was filed in federal court in Manhattan and is with prejudice, meaning that she is barred from bringing the lawsuit again.
Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing Jane Doe, declined to offer comments regarding the dismissal.
Sean Combs is currently incarcerated in Brooklyn as he awaits a criminal trial set for May 5 on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.
He has pleaded not guilty to these charges and maintains his innocence in the civil lawsuits against him.
Combs is facing multiple civil lawsuits from various individuals, many of whom are represented by Buzbee's law firm, alleging sexual assault and misconduct.
In a statement issued through his entertainment company Roc Nation, Carter referred to the dismissal as a victory, emphasizing that the allegations were 'frivolous' and 'without merit.' He also expressed that the case had caused trauma to his family, particularly his wife, Beyoncé, and their children.
Combs' legal representatives released a joint statement asserting that he has never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone, reinforcing their commitment to contesting what they describe as baseless claims.
They stated, 'This is just the first of many that will not hold up in a court of law.'
The lawsuit alleged that the incident occurred at an after party following the 2000 MTV Music Video Awards, which, according to Doe, resulted in significant psychological trauma, including depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, leading her to withdraw from society.
The ongoing situation surrounding Combs adds to a broader context of legal challenges faced by prominent figures in the entertainment industry regarding allegations of sexual misconduct.
