US President Joe Biden announced on Thursday the cancellation of an additional one billion and two hundred million dollars in student debt for 35,000 Americans.
This effort brings the total number of beneficiaries from various debt relief actions to 4.76 million.
The average debt cancellation for borrowers, including teachers, nurses, police officials, and first responders, is expected to be thirty-five thousand dollars.
The announcement coincides with the final day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Donald Trump is set to accept the Republican nomination.
Biden emphasized his commitment to making higher education affordable despite opposition from Republican officials.
This move follows the conservative-dominated US Supreme Court's dismissal of Biden's initial proposals to cancel several hundred billion dollars of debt.
Last month, Biden canceled the debt owed by 160,000 people, following the earlier relief for 150,000 borrowers this year.
