The group attacked the residence of Economy Minister Vital Kamerhe and moved to the Palais de la Nation, bearing flags of Zaire.
General Sylvain Ekenge confirmed that four attackers, including Malanga, were killed, and around 40 were arrested.
The attack also resulted in the deaths of two police officers guarding Kamerhe's residence.
Authorities, in cooperation with international entities, are investigating the incident further.
