Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was assaulted by a man in central Copenhagen on Friday evening at Kultorvet Square.

Following the assault, the suspect was arrested, and Frederiksen showed no outward signs of injury.

The prime minister's office released a statement confirming the incident and her shock without providing further details.

Danish police announced on social media platform X that they were investigating the assault but did not disclose additional information.

A local barista, Soren Kjergaard, observed Frederiksen being escorted away by security and described her as appearing 'a little stressed.' The attack happened just two days before Danish voters head to the polls for the EU election.

Danish Minister of Environment Magnus Heunicke expressed the collective shock among Frederiksen's close associates over the incident.
