Denmark Proposes Law to Combat AI-Generated Deepfakes
Legislation Grants Citizens Rights Over Digital Likenesses
Denmark has proposed a groundbreaking amendment to its copyright law aimed at addressing the challenges posed by AI-generated deepfakes.
The legislation, announced by the Ministry of Culture, seeks to grant Danish citizens ownership rights over their voice, face, and physical likeness, offering protection against unauthorized digital imitations.
The proposal also includes provisions for performing artists to safeguard their creative work from AI-generated replications.
Technology companies failing to remove deepfakes after notification may face significant fines under the EU Digital Services Act.
The law is expected to be submitted to the EU Commission and could be ratified by late 2025 or early 2026.
