Florida Holds No Statewide Elections in 2025; Only Local and Special Races Are on the Ballot
With gubernatorial and federal elections rescheduled for 2026, Floridians face an off-year dominated by municipal contests and special elections
Florida will not conduct any statewide or regular federal elections in 2025 — no governor, U.S. Senate or presidential contests are scheduled.
Instead, the ballot will consist primarily of local municipal elections and a handful of special state legislative and congressional contests.
Several special elections have already taken place in early 2025: on April 1 voters filled seats in Florida’s 1st and 6th U.S. House districts; on June 10 and September 2 special elections addressed vacancies in the state House and Senate; and two more special elections are slated for December 9. At the municipal level, cities such as Miami are listed for November 4 local races including the mayoralty and city council seats.
Residents seeking to vote should check with their county supervisor of elections for ballot details, candidate lists and deadlines.
Key dates for local and special elections vary substantially from major election years and many races will see lower turnout as a result of the off-year calendar.
Even though this year lacks a marquee statewide vote, the outcomes of municipal and special races could signal local political shifts and set the stage for the sweep of elections coming in 2026.
Voters are encouraged to confirm their registration, especially if they plan to participate in upcoming municipal or district-specific special contests.
