Linda Sun, who served as the deputy chief of staff to New York Governor Kathy Hochul for a year, has been arrested and charged with acting as an undisclosed agent of China.
Sun, age 41, is accused not only of acting on behalf of the Chinese government but also of visa fraud, alien smuggling, and money laundering conspiracy.
Federal prosecutors allege that Sun blocked Taiwanese representatives from meeting with New York officials and tried to organize a high-level visit by a New York state official to China.
For these actions, Sun reportedly received significant economic and other benefits from representatives of the People's Republic of China and the Chinese Communist Party.
Her husband, Chris Hu, has also been arrested. Prosecutors state that the Chinese government facilitated multi-million dollar transactions for Hu, who conducted business in China.
Sun and Hu allegedly used the proceeds from their activities to purchase a four-point-one million-dollar property in New York, a two-point-one million-dollar condominium in Hawaii, and several luxury vehicles, including a 2024 Ferrari.
