Lufthansa Suspends Tehran Flights and Iranian Airspace Use Amid Middle East Tensions
Lufthansa, the German airline, announced on Friday, April 12, that it would no longer use Iranian airspace and suspended all flights to and from Tehran until April 18.
The spokesperson for Lufthansa made this announcement, but did not provide information on the immediate reasons for the suspension.
The suspension of flights to Tehran began on April 6, and this latest extension will last until April 18.
The use of Iranian airspace by Lufthansa planes is also being discontinued.
The current Middle East tensions have been escalating, with Iran accusing its arch-foe Israel of being behind a strike in Syria on March 18 that resulted in the deaths of two Iranian generals.
Iran has threatened reprisals in response.
Israel has increased its strikes against Iran-linked targets in Syria since the conflict in the Gaza Strip began in October.
It is important to note that Lufthansa did not explicitly state that the suspension and the discontinuation of using Iranian airspace were directly related to the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
However, the timing of the announcement and the ongoing tensions suggest a possible connection.
