"Made Me Watch Porn For Spiritual Growth": Ex Nuns On Renowned Priest
Two ex-nuns allege that prominent Slovenian priest and mosaic artist Marko Rupnik, 69, subjected them to sexual and psychological abuse, including threesomes and pornography, under the guise of spiritual development.
These accusations add to the claims from at least 20 women against Rupnik, spanning three decades at a Slovenian religious community.
Gloria Branciani revealed in a Rome press conference that Rupnik manipulated religious teachings to justify his sexual demands, even comparing a threesome to the Holy Trinity.
Briefly excommunicated in 2020 for absolving a partner in a sexual affair, Rupnik was readmitted post-repentance but later ousted from the Jesuit order in 2022. In a rare move, Pope Francis lifted prescription limits, allowing for potential church discipline.
The case, highlighted five years after the Vatican's anti-abuse summit, led Anne Barrett Doyle of Bishop Accountability to demand an independent investigation and transparency, critiquing the Church's ineffectual reforms against sexual misconduct.
