A group of 14 Maine state senators has sent a letter to the White House, condemning Governor Janet Mills for her continued support of trans inclusion in girls' sports.

The letter praises President Donald Trump's administration for its handling of the situation in Maine, where the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) froze funding last week and referred the matter to the Department of Justice.

Maine officials have since filed a lawsuit against the USDA over the funding freeze.

The senators claim that Maine's current policies violate both the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Title IX.

They suggest that legislation could be voted on as early as this week to address the issue.

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House, Mills, and Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey for comment on the senators' letter.

The state has refused to comply with Trump's executive order banning trans athletes from girls' and women's sports, leading to increased federal pressure.

A survey by the American Parents Coalition found that 63% of registered Maine voters support sports participation based on biological sex, and 60% would support a ballot measure limiting participation in women's and girls' sports to biological females.
