Malawi Exempts 79 Countries from Visa to Boost Tourism
In an effort to increase tourism, Malawi has removed visa requirements for travelers from 79 nations, including the UK, US, France, China, Russia, and nations within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
President Lazarus Chakwera announced this move, highlighting tourism as a crucial but underutilized foreign exchange earner after tobacco and tea in the economically challenged country.
President Chakwera emphasized that improving accessibility is key to reviving Malawi's tourism. Tourism Minister Vera Kamtukule echoed this sentiment, noting that strict visa rules had hindered growth and investments in critical sectors such as agriculture and mining. By scrapping visa requirements for major global markets, Malawi aims to present itself as an investment-friendly destination.
Rich in wildlife and home to Lake Malawi, Africa's third-largest freshwater lake, Malawi offers pristine waters, sandy beaches, and an array of species, earning it a UNESCO World Heritage site designation. The country is now more accessible to international tourists and investors alike.
