Lunatic Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Pushing Commuter onto NYC Subway Tracks
Incident at 18th Street Station Raises Concerns Over Subway Safety
A 23-year-old man, Kamel Hawkins, has been charged with attempted murder and assault following a disturbing incident at Manhattan's 18th Street subway station.
On Tuesday afternoon, Hawkins allegedly pushed a 45-year-old male commuter onto the tracks as a southbound 1 train approached.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect pacing near the platform's edge before shoving the victim, who was reportedly distracted by his phone.
Miraculously, the victim survived with a head injury after being struck by the train.
Authorities have labeled the attack as random, with no apparent connection between Hawkins and the victim.
This event has intensified ongoing concerns about safety within New York City's subway system, prompting calls for increased security measures and mental health interventions to protect commuters from similar unprovoked attacks.
