Man in Custody Over Disappearance of Queensland Teenager Pheobe Bishop
Investigations continue into the suspicious case of the 17-year-old who went missing near Bundaberg Airport.
A 34-year-old man has been taken into custody as part of the investigation into the disappearance of 17-year-old Pheobe Bishop, who has been missing for nearly three weeks.
Pheobe was last seen on May 15 near Bundaberg Airport in southern Queensland, shortly after booking a flight to Western Australia to see her boyfriend.
However, police reports state that CCTV footage reveals she did not arrive at the airport terminal.
The police spokesperson indicated that the man in custody is assisting with ongoing inquiries, although no charges have been laid against him at this time.
Earlier in the day, authorities had announced a scaled-back search for Pheobe, having previously focused efforts in the Gin Gin area where she lived with two others on a property.
Pheobe's mother, Kylie Johnson, has made public appeals for information, expressing her family's distress in social media posts.
On the 20th day of her daughter's disappearance, she questioned the possibility of life returning to normal without Pheobe, highlighting her belief that others possess information vital to the investigation.
The initial search centered on Good Night Scrub National Park, located an hour's drive from the airport, where homicide detectives and police divers were deployed.
During this phase, several items believed to be related to the case were collected for forensic analysis.
Investigators have noted that some evidence might have been disturbed prior to their arrival at the park.
Subsequently, the search shifted to include the immediate vicinity of Gin Gin, where Pheobe was residing.
The property where she lived, along with a grey Hyundai ix35 associated with transporting her to the airport, has been designated a crime scene.
Pheobe’s housemates, James Wood and Tanika Kristan Bromley, have been charged with unrelated weapons offenses, but authorities have clarified that these charges do not implicate them in Pheobe's disappearance.
Police are currently urging anyone with information or footage of the grey Hyundai in the Gin Gin area between May 15 and May 18 to come forward.
A description of Pheobe has been provided: she is approximately 180cm tall with a pale complexion, long hair that has been dyed red, and hazel eyes.
She was last observed carrying luggage and wearing a green tank top paired with grey sweatpants.
