Princess Theodora of Greece married US lawyer Matthew Kumar at Athens Metropolitan Cathedral. Their Greek Orthodox wedding marked the continuation of a love story delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the death of Theodora's father. The couple celebrated with close family and friends, highlighting their strong ties to Greek culture.
Princess Theodora of Greece and US lawyer Matthew Kumar were married on Saturday at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral of the Annunciation.
This Greek Orthodox wedding was attended by many distinguished guests and marked the fulfillment of a romance that began years prior.
Mr. Kumar, who is based in Los Angeles, proposed to Theodora in 2018.
Their wedding was postponed twice, first due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then due to the death of Theodora's father, Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark, in January 2023.
Theodora, goddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II, was born in London and pursued a career in acting in Los Angeles after graduating in Theatre Arts.
The couple hosted a gathering at the Byzantine Museum the night before the wedding, attended by close family and friends, including Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal.
The traditional ceremony was officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan of Syros, Dorotheos II, and emphasized the couple's love for Greek culture and hospitality.
