The Prime Minister's annual salary is 172,153 pounds, consisting of 80,807 pounds for the PM role and an additional 91,346 pounds for being an MP. Past Prime Ministers' pay varied significantly, with historic salaries much higher in today's terms. Keir Starmer is set to become the next Prime Minister of the UK following Labour's landslide victory, which ended the Tories' 14-year rule.

Having secured 410 out of 650 seats in the House of Commons, Starmer is poised to replace Rishi Sunak.

The annual salary for a UK Prime Minister is 172,153 pounds, which includes 80,807 pounds for the role of Prime Minister and an additional 91,346 pounds for being an MP, although only 75,440 pounds is actually claimed.

MPs pay regular taxes and national insurance.

Historically, the pay for UK Prime Ministers has seen ups and downs.

For instance, William Pitt in the 18th century earned 10,500 pounds per annum, and by 1937, the prime minister's annual pay was equivalent to 600,000 pounds today.

The Public Duty Costs Allowance (PDCA) allows former Prime Ministers to claim up to 115,000 pounds annually for office and secretarial costs for life.
