Singapore Civil Servants Receive Increased Year-End Bonus

Junior Officers Benefit from Additional One-Time Payment
Singaporean civil servants will receive a total year-end bonus of 1.05 months, along with an additional one-time payment of $600 (US$445) for junior officers in grades equivalent to MX15 and MX16, as well as those in the Operations Support Scheme.

Combined with the mid-year bonus of 0.45 months, civil servants will receive a total of 1.5 months of bonus in 2024, up from 0.9 months the previous year.

Junior grade officers will receive up to $850 in total, including extra payments given earlier in June.

The Public Service Division stated that this approach aligns with the National Wages Council’s recommendations to support lower-wage workers.

The bonuses reflect the adept performance of the Singapore economy in the first three quarters of the year, alongside improving global economic conditions.

Forecasts by the Ministry of Trade and Industry project a GDP growth of around 3.5% for 2024.

The Ministry of Manpower reported substantial employment growth from July to September 2023, while unemployment stayed low at 1.8% and retrenchments decreased.

Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari, general secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees, supported the bonuses, stating they reward civil servants for contributing to economic success and help manage increased living costs.

NTUC and public sector unions also support the decision.

Deputy Secretary-General Cham Hui Fong encouraged civil servants to pursue upskilling to remain competitive.

The Government confirmed the continuation of a one-month non-pensionable annual allowance (13th-month bonus) for all civil servants.
