A 17-year-old girl named Charlize Zmuda was tragically attacked by a shark while swimming about 100 meters off Woorim Beach on Bribie Island, Queensland, on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were notified around 4:45 p.m., but despite immediate medical intervention, she unfortunately died from severe upper body injuries at the scene.

The incident took place in an area that was monitored by drumlines, a shark control measure designed to safeguard swimmers.

This incident marks the third deadly shark attack in Australia in just six weeks.

Local authorities have expressed their condolences to the victim's family and are in the process of preparing a coroner's report.
