Trump Administration Removes First Woman to Lead US Military Service
Admiral Linda Fagan, the first woman to head a U.S. military branch, has been dismissed from her role as Coast Guard leader.
The Trump administration has removed Admiral Linda Fagan from her position as the head of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Fagan, who made history as the first woman to lead a U.S. military service, was dismissed amid reported concerns over her handling of border security, her emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and issues related to the Coast Guard’s sexual assault investigations.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees the Coast Guard, has not yet provided an official statement on the dismissal.
A senior official cited these concerns, which align with Trump and Republican critiques of government programs focused on diversity and border security.
On her departure, acting DHS Secretary Benjamine Huffman thanked Admiral Fagan for her 'long and illustrious career.' Fagan had served as Coast Guard commandant since 2022, with previous roles, including vice commandant.
She had a distinguished career, serving in various international capacities, from Antarctica to Africa, as well as in cities like Tokyo and Geneva.
Fagan's biography has since been removed from the Coast Guard website.
