Trump's Security Advisor Calls for Negotiated End to Ukraine Conflict
Mike Waltz emphasizes need for diplomacy as tensions escalate
In Washington, Mike Waltz, appointed by US President-elect Donald Trump as national security advisor, called for a responsible conclusion to the war between Ukraine and Russia, urging both nations to negotiate.
Recently, the US permitted Ukraine to use American missiles against Russian territory, escalating tensions as Russia responded with a test of a medium-range ballistic missile.
Waltz, a former US special forces officer, has criticized Russia and emphasized the need for negotiations, mirroring Trump's reluctance to increase aid to Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, and the US has supported Kyiv's defense of its eastern territories.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that losing US support would cost Ukraine the war.
Despite the transition of power, Waltz assured that adversaries should not assume any strategic advantages during the changeover.
Additionally, Waltz praised Israel's resilience in its ongoing conflict with Hamas, sparked by the October 7, 2023, attack.
Emphasizing stability, he advocated for long-term solutions in the Middle East beyond temporary ceasefires.
