US Man Sues Alaska Airlines Over Dog's Death on Flight
Lawsuit Accuses Airline of Negligence with French Bulldog Breed
Michael Contillo, a San Francisco resident, has filed a lawsuit against Alaska Airlines, alleging negligence in the death of his French bulldog, Ash, during a flight from New York to San Francisco.
Contillo and his father had purchased first-class tickets for their dogs' comfort, but were moved to a different section of the plane due to safety concerns.
This relocation allegedly caused distress to Ash, who experienced respiratory issues and died by the time they reached San Francisco International Airport.
The lawsuit claims the airline was negligent in handling brachycephalic breeds like French bulldogs, breached contract by downgrading passengers, and failed to adequately train staff to handle animals with specific health needs.
Contillo is seeking financial and punitive damages, citing emotional distress and the airline's lack of empathy.
The American Veterinary Medical Association advises caution when flying brachycephalic breeds due to their susceptibility to respiratory problems.
