US telecoms firm AT&T notifying millions of customers over data breach
AT&T has begun informing millions of its customers about a data breach after discovering personal information on the dark web.
The breach possibly affects 7.6 million current and 65.4 million former customers, involving stolen social security numbers but excluding financial details or call history.
The data, dating back to at least 2019, also contains contact information and birth dates. AT&T has reset passwords for affected accounts and is contacting impacted individuals.
The source of the breach, either from AT&T or a vendor, remains unclear. This incident follows a February outage affecting thousands, attributed to a coding error.
