Colombian President Gustavo Petro has declared a suspension of coal exports to Israel amid its ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
Petro described Israel's actions in Gaza as 'genocidal' and announced the halt on coal exports until the hostilities cease.
The policy will take effect five days after its publication in the official gazette but will not affect shipments already approved.
Additionally, Petro stated that Colombia would cease purchasing weapons from Israel, a major supplier to Colombia's security forces.
In May, the Colombian government revealed plans to sever ties with Israel and open an embassy in Ramallah, Palestinian territories.
