Huawei Surpasses Apple in China Smartphone Sales for First Time in Nearly Four Years
In August, Huawei Technologies surpassed Apple in smartphone sales in Mainland China for the first time in 46 months. This achievement follows Huawei's successful comeback in the 5G handset market, marked by increased demand for its high-end models and foldables like the Mate XT. Huawei now holds a significant 17.5% market share in China, contributing to rising domestic shipment figures in the world's largest smartphone market.

This marks a significant achievement for Huawei, particularly since it regained a foothold in the 5G handset market after US sanctions.
Aligning with this, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology reported a 12.7% year-on-year decline in foreign smartphone shipments, including those of Apple, while domestic shipments increased 26.7% to 24.05 million units.
TechInsights noted strong demand for Huawei's high-end handsets like the Mate and Pura series, along with its Mate XT foldable, contributing to record-high revenue.
Huawei claims an 89% share of its global smartphone shipments in China, which is its core market.
In the first half of the year, Huawei held a 17.5% market share as domestic smartphone shipments grew by 7.7% to exceed 140 million units.
