Iran's President-Elect Masoud Pezeshkian Reiterates Support for Hezbollah

Iran's president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed support for Hezbollah and condemned Israel's actions against Palestinians. Iran's commitment to the resistance movement is rooted in its core policies. The election result is seen as a call for change by the Iranian people.
Iran's president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday reaffirmed the Islamic republic's support for Lebanon's Hezbollah group and condemned Israel's actions against Palestinians.

The statement, issued to Hezbollah's chief Hassan Nasrallah on the IRNA official news agency, was one of the first foreign policy comments from Pezeshkian since his victory in Friday's presidential election runoff.

Tehran provides financial and military support to Hezbollah, which was created at the initiative of Iran's Revolutionary Guards after Israel overran Beirut in 1982 during Lebanon's civil war.

Pezeshkian stated that Iran's support for the resistance movement is rooted in the fundamental policies of the Islamic Republic.

He expressed confidence that the resistance movement would counter Israel's warmongering and criminal policies in Gaza, where Israel has been at war with Hezbollah's ally, Hamas, for nine months.

The ongoing conflict has seen near-daily fire exchanges between Hezbollah and Israel over Lebanon's border, raising concerns of an all-out war.

Earlier, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani asserted that Tehran would continue to support Lebanon and warned Israel of potential consequences for any aggressive actions in the region.

Pezeshkian, a reformist, defeated ultraconservative Saeed Jalili in the election, which was advanced due to the death of president Ebrahim Raisi.

Following the election, Israel's Foreign Minister Israel Katz noted the result as a call for change from the Iranian people.

Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah congratulated Pezeshkian, reaffirming their collaboration within the Axis of Resistance, which opposes Israel and the United States.
