Russia Cautions US on Escalation but Maintains Communication
Moscow warns against increasing tensions while keeping missile dialogue open
On Wednesday, Russia advised the United States to halt what it termed a 'spiral of escalation' concerning the conflict in Ukraine but affirmed its commitment to ongoing communication about missile tests.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov emphasized that Russia wants to avoid 'dangerous mistakes' despite heightened tensions.
This comes after Russia launched the Oreshnik, a hypersonic ballistic missile, following Ukraine's use of American and British missiles against Russian targets.
Russia's actions come amid warnings about supplying Kyiv with more weapons.
Despite not being technically obliged, Russia informed the US about the Oreshnik launch 30 minutes in advance.
Additionally, Russia continues work on its Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile despite setbacks.
President Vladimir Putin has tied such escalations to the West's support for Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy calls for strong international responses to Russia's actions, which the US military describes as experimental with limited availability.
