Trump and First Lady Host Festive Halloween at the White House
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed costumed children to the South Lawn as part of the annual White House Halloween celebration
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump greeted hundreds of trick-or-treaters on the South Lawn of the White House on Thursday evening, delivering full-sized candy bars in presidential-seal boxes amid vibrant fall décor and a festive atmosphere.
The gathering featured children from military families, law-enforcement households and staff families, all enjoying the seasonal festivities against a backdrop of carved pumpkins, autumn mums and an orchestral rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
Arriving for the event, the president wore a suit and a red “USA” cap while the first lady appeared in a brown coat over an orange dress.
The couple greeted youngsters dressed in a wide range of costumes—from superheroes to dinosaurs and even miniature impersonators of the first couple and Secret Service agents.
At one moment, President Trump playfully placed a candy bar on top the head of a child dressed in white with a light-up mask, echoing a similar scene from a previous year that went viral.
The first lady gently tapped the president’s arm, appearing briefly surprised by the gesture.
Inside the White House grounds, First Lady Melania Trump revealed the Halloween decor earlier in the week, showcasing pumpkins, seasonal foliage and autumn-leaf garlands across the South Portico and driveway.
The decorations coincided with ongoing renovation work inside the East Wing, where a new ballroom is under construction.
The event proceeded despite the month-long federal government shutdown, offering a moment of light-hearted community engagement.
Guests in attendance included members of the White House press-secretary’s family and children of administration staff, underscoring the inclusive tone of the annual tradition.
While the presidential couple did not appear in costume themselves, their warm greetings and engagement with the young visitors lent the occasion a spirited and welcoming air.
The event capped off a week in which the White House hosted a key holiday-themed gathering, reinforcing a sense of tradition and continuity at the heart of the administration’s public calendar.
