Trump Unveils $500 Billion in Private-Sector Investment for AI Infrastructure
The President of the United States announces a partnership involving OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle to invest in AI infrastructure, which is anticipated to generate over 100,000 jobs.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a $500 billion investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure, a collaborative effort by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle.
The project, dubbed Stargate, plans to establish data centers and generate over 100,000 jobs across the United States. The participating companies have pledged $100 billion for immediate use, with additional investments expected over the next four years.
Initial data centers are already being constructed in Texas, aiming to support AI technologies for uses such as electronic health records.
Trump, along with SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison, celebrated the announcement, with the executives acknowledging Trump's pivotal role in enabling the initiative.
This investment addresses the increasing demand for specialized data centers essential for AI technologies, which require substantial computing power.
Although the announcement is connected to earlier reports of a $100 billion project involving OpenAI and Microsoft, it remains uncertain if this represents a continuation of that plan.
The announcement aligns with the reversal of former President Joe Biden's AI executive order.
Investment in AI has accelerated since the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in 2022, driving growth across multiple industries.
