US Colleges Advise International Students on Travel Before 2025 Inauguration
Universities issue advisories amid concerns of potential travel bans under Trump administration
Several American universities, including MIT and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, have issued travel advisories to international students ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20, 2025.
Concerns center around potential travel disruptions due to new immigration policies and executive orders Trump may sign upon taking office.
Institutions like MIT have emphasized the possibility of delays in visa processing and recommended students be cautious in travel plans.
India has become the leading origin for international students in the U.S., with a significant increase to 331,602 students, surpassing China at 277,398 students in 2023/2024, according to the 'Open Doors 2024 Report.' In 2017, shortly after taking office, Trump implemented a travel ban affecting several countries, leading to significant disruptions.
Universities, therefore, advise students to be present in the U.S. before January 20 to avoid possible travel difficulties.
