Ukraine Conducts Underwater Explosion Attack on Crimean Bridge

Ukrainian forces target strategic infrastructure in the third offensive against the bridge connecting Crimea to Russia.
The Security Service of Ukraine has executed a significant military operation, successfully striking the Crimean Bridge on June 3, 2025, marking the third time this crucial infrastructure has been targeted since the onset of hostilities.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, the operation involved extensive planning over several months, culminating in the detonation of approximately 1,100 kilograms of explosives, equivalent to TNT, at 4:44 AM local time.

The Crimean Bridge serves as a key connection between the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula and mainland Russia, making it a strategically significant target in the ongoing conflict.

Ukrainian officials reported that the attack was executed precisely, resulting in critical damage to the bridge without any civilian casualties.

Initial reports from Russian media indicated that the bridge experienced a temporary closure to traffic shortly after the explosion.

However, by 10 AM local time, the bridge had reportedly reopened.

Later in the day, authorities in the region announced that the bridge would again be closed, though specific reasons for this closure were not detailed.

This attack follows a previous large-scale drone assault by Ukrainian forces that targeted over 40 Russian bomber aircraft, which is said to have severely diminished Russia’s aerial capabilities.

Estimates suggest that the drone strike resulted in the destruction of 34% of Russia's strategic bombers capable of carrying cruise missiles, leading to potential losses valued at approximately £5.2 billion for the Kremlin.

In response to the recent offensive against the Crimean Bridge, Dmitry Medvedev, a prominent ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, issued a statement via Telegram threatening retribution.

He urged those concerned about potential retaliatory actions to brace themselves, asserting that retribution would be forthcoming.

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues to escalate, with both sides engaging in a series of military operations and countermeasures.
