U.S. Justice Department and DOGE Announce Cuts to Federal Grants Amid Broader Government Efficiency Efforts
Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Government Efficiency implement significant reductions in federal funding, targeting various programs and initiatives
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a series of federal grant reductions as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate what the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) identify as wasteful spending.
These measures align with the broader initiative to streamline government expenditures and enhance efficiency across federal agencies.
Among the grants affected is a $2 million allocation previously designated for national listening sessions involving individuals with lived experiences.
Additionally, a $695,000 grant intended for a mixed-methods case study assessing the efficacy of police departments’ LGBTQ liaison services has been rescinded.
Another $250,000 grant aimed at supporting incarcerated transgender individuals through gender-affirming care and appropriate housing has also been terminated.
These actions are part of a larger campaign led by DOGE to reduce federal spending.
Recently, DOGE collaborated with the National Science Foundation to cancel 402 grants related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, resulting in a reported savings of $233 million.
This includes the termination of a $1 million grant for a program titled "Antiracist Teacher Leadership for Statewide Transformation."
In a related development, DOGE has been instrumental in identifying and eliminating contracts deemed unnecessary or redundant.
The department's efforts have led to the termination of numerous federal contracts, contributing to the administration's goal of reducing government expenditures.
These measures have been implemented in coordination with various federal agencies to ensure compliance with the overarching directive to enhance governmental efficiency.
The DOJ and DOGE continue to review federal programs and grants to identify areas where spending can be curtailed without compromising essential services.
These initiatives reflect the administration's commitment to fiscal responsibility and the optimization of government operations.
