Controversial Activists Could Impact Kamala Harris' Campaign
Two Black female activists linked to Vice President Kamala Harris, Cora Masters Barry and Melanie Campbell, have made controversial statements that could affect Harris' campaign. Barry's expletive-laden criticism of White women voters and Campbell's remarks on race and privilege may create internal tensions. Both activists are key figures in Harris' political circle.
Cora Masters Barry and Melanie Campbell, two Black female activists closely associated with Vice President Kamala Harris, have made controversial statements that may alienate some of her supporters.
Barry and Campbell have met with Harris or her staff nearly a dozen times and have visited the White House over 50 times during the Biden administration.
In a 2021 Zoom call, Barry criticized White women voters, using an expletive, and expressed strong anti-Trump sentiments.
Campbell also criticized White supporters of Trump, citing race and privilege as factors.
Their past rhetoric may create internal tensions as the Harris campaign aims to mobilize diverse voting blocs ahead of upcoming elections.
