The incident, which left Frederiksen 'shaken' but 'fine,' occurred on a Copenhagen square and is not believed to be politically motivated, according to Prosecutor Taruh Sekeroglu.
The suspect, who was apprehended on-site, appeared in court and was remanded in custody until June 20.
Authorities noted the man was intoxicated and mentally unbalanced at the time of the attack.
French President Emmanuel Macron and EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen condemned the act.
Frederiksen thanked the public for their support and is now resting with her family.
