Driver Detained After Van Crashes Into Security Barrier Outside White House

Secret Service arrests suspect after early-morning incident near Lafayette Park prompts security response and temporary street closures.
A man was taken into custody after driving a van into a security barrier outside the White House early Wednesday morning, prompting a rapid response from federal and local authorities in Washington.

The incident occurred shortly before six thirty in the morning near the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and H Street, just north of the presidential complex.

According to the United States Secret Service, the vehicle struck a temporary security barricade positioned outside the White House perimeter.

Officers from the Secret Service’s Uniformed Division quickly apprehended the driver at the scene.

Authorities said the individual was detained immediately after the crash and was being interviewed by investigators, with potential criminal charges pending.

Security personnel treated the vehicle as suspicious until it could be fully examined.

A police bomb squad was dispatched to inspect the van as a precautionary measure, but officials later confirmed that the vehicle posed no explosive threat.

The crash prompted a temporary lockdown of streets and access points around the White House complex as emergency crews and investigators secured the area.

Police and Secret Service vehicles blocked surrounding roads while officers assessed the scene and conducted safety checks.

Officials said no injuries were reported during the incident.

Several entrances and nearby streets were briefly closed while authorities carried out the investigation and cleared the vehicle from the scene.

The White House remained secure throughout the episode.

President Donald Trump was inside the residence at the time, according to officials familiar with the schedule, and normal activities at the executive complex continued once security checks were completed.

By mid-morning, most road closures had been lifted and the area reopened to traffic as investigators continued to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect or a possible motive.

Federal investigators are examining evidence and surveillance footage as part of an ongoing inquiry into the incident.
