Florida Hospital Welcomes Its Largest-Ever Baby: Annan, Nearly Fourteen Pounds at Birth

Mother delivers son weighing thirteen pounds, fifteen ounces at St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in Riverview, setting a hospital record
A baby boy named Annan was born on September 3 at St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in Riverview, Florida, weighing thirteen pounds, fifteen ounces (approximately six point three kilograms), nearly double the average newborn weight.

This marks the largest baby ever delivered at that hospital in its ten-year history.

His mother, forty-year-old Daniella Hines, who previously also delivered a notably large baby, described the experience as intense and surprising, recalling feelings of pressure during her caesarean section and shock at seeing Annan for the first time: “He was so big.

Whose baby is this?

He came out of me?”

Hines and her husband Andre Sr., both over six feet tall, believe genetics may have contributed significantly to Annan’s size.

During pregnancy, Hines was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, but she says her blood sugar was kept under close control throughout.

Nurses and doctors in the maternity ward were astonished by Annan’s size, describing him as “the talk of the hospital,” and likening his arrival to that of a minor celebrity.

A week after his birth, he is reported to be calm and content—unless it’s time to feed.

His parents are delighted, calling him a “big blessing” and embracing his unexpected fame.

The baby has also gained a nickname from his father, who proudly refers to him as “Sumo,” joking that at this early stage “he’s already ready for the gym”.

Though Annan’s birth sets a local record, it falls short of the internationally recorded heaviest newborn.

According to Guinness World Records, the record remains held by a baby born in 1955 in Aversa, Italy, weighing just over twenty-two pounds (ten kilograms).

For now, Annan—affectionately known as Sumo—is celebrated at his hospital as its biggest infant ever.

His mother is already clearing out newborn clothing and diapers that are far too small, while the family prepares to enjoy his new-found celebrity status.
