Laurie Leigh Shaver from Florida was convicted on Friday for the 2015 murder of her husband, Michael Douglas Shaver.
The jury found her guilty of second-degree murder after four hours of deliberation but acquitted her of accessory charges.
The trial began on September 9, and evidence revealed that Michael’s body was buried under a concrete fire pit at their home in Clermont, Lake County.
Missing since November 2015, Michael, a monorail technician at Disney World, was reported missing in February 2018 by a friend.
When Lake County deputies initially visited the Shaver home, Laurie claimed Michael had abandoned the family but later evaded granting permission for a property search.
Subsequent searches using cadaver dogs and ground-penetrating radar discovered Michael’s body wrapped in a tarp under the fire pit.
Laurie had been impersonating him on social media to cover up the crime.
State Attorney Bill Gladson praised the investigative efforts that led to obtaining justice for Michael.
