Hamas Chief Yahya Sinwar Killed in Israeli Operation

Israel has reported the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar during a military operation in Gaza, marking a major development in the ongoing conflict. Yahya Sinwar was believed to be behind the October 7 attack, and his elimination follows similar operations against other leaders in Lebanon and elsewhere. The conflict has led to significant casualties on both sides, and there are concerns about wider regional escalation.
JERUSALEM: In a significant blow to Hamas, Israel announced the killing of Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar during a military operation in the southern Gaza Strip.

Sinwar was accused by Israel of masterminding the deadly October 7, 2023, attack.

The Israeli military pursued and ultimately eliminated Sinwar on Wednesday.

Although Hamas has not confirmed his death, Israel's Foreign Minister Israel Katz stated Sinwar was responsible for the October 7 massacre.

Prior to this announcement, Israel had also assassinated Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon and other Iran-backed commanders.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to eliminate Hamas and secure the release of 251 hostages taken during the attack.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life, with 1,206 people killed in Israel and 42,438 in Gaza, mostly civilians.

With tensions spreading to Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, there are concerns about the escalation into a broader regional conflict.
