Judge Rejects Hunter Biden's Request to Dismiss Gun Charges: Trial Set to Begin
A federal judge in Delaware denied Hunter Biden's request to dismiss three gun charges against him.
The charges include lying about his illegal narcotic use when purchasing a Colt Cobra handgun in 2018 and illegally possessing that weapon.
Joe Biden, the Democratic U.S. president, is currently campaigning for re-election while his son faces these criminal cases.
A federal judge has denied a motion to dismiss gun charges against Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden.
The trial is set to begin on June 3 in Wilmington.
Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which were brought by Special Counsel David Weiss in September.
If convicted, he could have faced up to 20 years in prison.
Hunter Biden's attorneys argued that the law under which he was charged was unconstitutional due to a recent Supreme Court ruling expanding gun rights.
Republican candidate Donald Trump, who is running for re-election in the Nov. 5 U.S. election, also faces four criminal indictments.
Biden's legal team has argued against the appointment of U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss, accused selective prosecution against Hunter Biden, and cited a binding agreement to shield him from prosecution.
Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to federal tax crimes in a separate case led by Weiss in California, which could result in up to 17 years in prison if convicted.
The trial for this case is scheduled to begin on June 20.
