Majority of Voters Support Trump’s National Guard Deployment in Washington, D.C.
National survey shows more than half of Americans back federal action, with strong Republican and independent approval
A new national poll found that 54 percent of voters support President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard and assume control of Washington, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police.
The measure, introduced as part of a federal crime crackdown in the capital, received overwhelming approval from 85 percent of Republicans and solid backing among independents, while 72 percent of Democrats opposed it.
On public safety, 51 percent of respondents said the Guard presence makes the city safer, compared with 22 percent who believed it makes conditions less safe.
The remainder reported no change in their perception of safety.
Thousands of Guard soldiers and airmen are currently stationed across all eight wards of Washington, D.C., under the operation.
