MotoGP Cameraman Narrowly Avoids Pedro Acosta Crash at Hungarian Grand Prix
A high-speed qualifying spill at Balaton Park nearly struck a camera operator but he emerged unhurt
During qualifying for the MotoGP Hungarian Grand Prix at Balaton Park, Pedro Acosta lost control of his KTM at the high-speed Turn 8, causing the bike to tumble across the gravel and vault over catch fencing.
Footage released by MotoGP shows the bike striking one of its cameras before landing near an operator identified as Joao, who narrowly dodged the machine in a near-miss incident and walked away unharmed.
Balaton Park is hosting its first MotoGP event since 1992 and recently underwent safety updates, though the incident has renewed scrutiny over track design and barrier placements.
The crash occurred during Q2 qualifying, overshadowing a record-breaking performance by Ducati’s Marc Marquez, who secured pole position with a lap time of one minute thirty-six point five one eight seconds.
KTM’s Pedro Acosta, despite being fastest in Friday practice, saw his session end early due to the crash and was unable to qualify higher than seventh on his backup machine.
