Nine Palestinians Reported Dead in Major Israeli Operation in Jenin

Israeli forces conduct extensive military operation in the West Bank amidst regional tensions.
In a significant military operation, Israeli forces have killed nine Palestinians and injured 35 others in Jenin, a city located in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

This event follows a series of air strikes and the movement of a large number of Israeli troops into the area, supported by drones, helicopters, and armored bulldozers.

The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has described the operation as both 'extensive and significant,' with the objective of 'defeating terrorism' in Jenin, recognized as a stronghold for Palestinian armed groups.

This initiative comes shortly after the enforcement of a ceasefire in Gaza and raises concerns about escalating violence in the West Bank.

Israeli media sources have cited military officials indicating that the operation's aim is to maintain 'freedom of action' within the West Bank, dismantle armed groups' infrastructure, and neutralize immediate threats.

The operation has been described as potentially ongoing for an indefinite period.

Jenin's governor, Kamal Abu al-Rub, referred to the situation as an 'invasion of the camp,' highlighting the overwhelming presence of Israeli military forces.

Armored bulldozers were reported to have destroyed several streets, while local Palestinian security forces reportedly retreated from their positions around the Jenin camp.

The Palestinian Health Ministry has identified the deceased as eight men and a 16-year-old boy, named as Mutaz Abu Tbeikh, all victims of Israeli military action in Jenin.

Additionally, a man was reportedly killed by Israeli troops in the village of Tianik, situated near Jenin.

The Palestinian Authority has openly condemned the military operation, describing it as part of ongoing aggressive measures by Israel within the West Bank.

The Palestinian factions, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, have urged an escalation of responses against Israeli activities.

In a simultaneous incident, reports emerged of attacks by suspected Israeli settlers in Palestinian villages east of Qalqilya.

At least 21 Palestinians were injured in the attacks that involved arson and property destruction.

The Israeli military has announced investigations into these events.

Tensions continue to escalate as the political landscape is reshaped following recent changes in the United States administration.

The new U.S. President, Donald Trump, lifted sanctions on Israeli settlers, a move that may influence settlement activities in the region.

The West Bank has witnessed a rise in violent incidents since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent military response, which has resulted in a significant number of Palestinian casualties.

According to local authorities, the conflict has led to the deaths of over 47,000 Palestinians, with ongoing military operations focused on countering aggression from Palestinian groups.
