Political commentator fired over 'explanation' for Charlie Kirk’s murder
MSNBC dismissed commentator Matthew Dowd after he claimed on air that Charlie Kirk’s 'hateful rhetoric' led to his assassination, prompting an apology from the network’s president.
Reports indicate that the American network MSNBC has dismissed political commentator Matthew Dowd after he claimed on air that Charlie Kirk’s 'hateful rhetoric' was what led to his murder.
The network has not issued an official response to the reports.
During the broadcast, Dowd attempted to explain the assassination of the American right-wing activist, who was a staunch supporter of Israel.
Among other remarks, he argued that Kirk’s 'hate-filled rhetoric' was the factor that led to his killing.
The network quickly distanced itself from his comments and issued an apology.
'Regarding our news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk,' said MSNBC President Rebecca Kotler, 'Matthew Dowd made remarks that were inappropriate, insensitive, and unacceptable.
We apologize for his comments, as does he.
There is no place for political violence, or any violence, in America.'
Kirk, the American right-wing activist, was assassinated by gunfire on Wednesday during an event at a university in Utah.
