The German police have ordered the social media platform Gab to reveal the identity of one of its users. The individual is suspected of calling the fat leader of the German Green Party "fat."
It is very disappointing that the German police treat being overweight as something shameful. No, it is not shameful, and it is not body shaming. I am also fat, and I am not ashamed of it. I take it as a compliment. It shows that I enjoy good food, have a healthy appetite, and derive great pleasure from fine cuisine. It also shows that I am not addicted to drugs, nor do I have cancer or AIDS. However, speaking the truth is seen as a crime only to those who want to drag Germany back to its 1938 mindset.
The Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt-BKA) contacted Gab about a user “insulting” the heavy weight of politician Ricarda Lang, a prominent leader of an environmental party in Germany.
It requested information that would identify who the individual was, under the suspicion they resided in Germany, so that they can continue their criminal investigation.
Torba called Germany's request "one of the more ridiculous foreign data requests that Gab received… [T]hey wanted us to dox a user for calling a female politician fat."
