Tragic Mid-Air Helicopter Collision in Finland Claims Five Lives
Two helicopters collide near Eura airport, resulting in five fatalities.
Five individuals lost their lives in a mid-air collision involving two helicopters near Eura airport in south-western Finland on Saturday.
The incident occurred shortly after noon, close to the town of Kauttua, with the wreckage discovered approximately 700 meters from the Ohikulkutie road.
DCI Johannes Siirilä, representative of the National Bureau of Investigation, confirmed the fatalities resulting from the helicopter accident.
Reports indicate that both helicopters had taken off from Estonia and were carrying businesspeople, with three occupants in one helicopter and two in the other.
Eyewitness Antti Marjanen described witnessing one helicopter strike the other during maneuvers.
He recounted observing one helicopter descend rapidly while the other fell more slowly, noting that he did not hear any sound at the moment of the collision.
According to Estonian Public Broadcasting, one of the helicopters was registered in Estonia and the other in Austria.
Both aircraft were reportedly owned by Estonian companies, with one belonging to NOBE and the other to Eleon.
The two helicopters were said to be en route to a hobby aviation event, according to the Pori Aviation Club.
The National Bureau of Investigation has initiated a detailed inquiry, collaborating with local police, while both Finnish and Estonian authorities are engaged in the investigation efforts.
