Trump Endorses Full Release of Epstein Files as Congress Moves Toward Disclosure
Former president backs House effort after internal GOP pressure, insisting Republicans should shift focus to economic priorities
Congress is preparing to vote on a bill requiring the release of all unclassified files connected to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, as former President Donald Trump—after days of resistance—publicly endorsed the measure.
The move comes amid mounting pressure from Republicans who concluded the vote was inevitable and necessary to end speculation surrounding the case.
Trump’s advisers acknowledged he had been frustrated that Democrats framed the initiative as their victory, prompting him to urge House Republicans to delay action.
But when it became clear that opposing the vote would place him at odds with the caucus, Trump issued a statement supporting the release, declaring that Republicans “have nothing to hide” and should move forward so they could refocus national debate on economic issues.
Senior House Republicans echoed that view.
Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, whose panel subpoenaed Epstein’s estate earlier this year, emphasized that the Department of Justice has already surrendered all materials it is legally permitted to provide.
A White House official backed that assessment, calling the notion of withheld releasable documents a misconception.
Even Republicans who have championed disclosure acknowledge that the expected vote will not fully resolve public distrust surrounding the case.
Some lawmakers anticipate additional demands for information even after the files are published, noting that the Epstein matter has become a political flashpoint beyond the scope of formal investigations.
Still, the House is expected to approve the bill with broad bipartisan support.
For Trump, the endorsement offers a way to neutralize political fallout, align himself with the transparency effort, and redirect attention toward policy issues he sees as more advantageous heading into the next phase of his administration’s agenda.
