U.S. House Committee Subpoenas Clintons and Senior Officials in Epstein Investigation
Bill and Hillary Clinton among those called for depositions as part of congressional probe into government handling of Epstein case
The U.S. House Oversight Committee has issued subpoenas to former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in connection with its ongoing investigation into the government's response to the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case.
The committee has scheduled depositions for October ninth and October fourteenth, respectively.
In addition to the Clintons, the committee has also subpoenaed U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and former FBI Director James Comey.
The committee is seeking information and testimony related to their roles or knowledge concerning the federal government's actions during and after the investigation into Epstein’s criminal network.
The subpoenas form part of a broader inquiry into the U.S. Department of Justice's and FBI's handling of Epstein-related matters, including decisions surrounding prosecution, plea agreements, and possible investigative lapses.
As part of the probe, the committee has requested that the Department of Justice provide Epstein-related records by August nineteenth.
The congressional investigation follows renewed public and political scrutiny over how Epstein’s connections and alleged co-conspirators were addressed by federal agencies.
Epstein was arrested in July twenty nineteen on federal charges of sex trafficking minors and died in custody the following month.
His death was ruled a suicide by the New York City medical examiner.
Questions over the extent of his network, its ties to high-profile individuals, and the adequacy of government oversight have persisted since his death.
The current congressional action marks one of the most high-profile efforts to compel testimony from former senior officials regarding the broader context of the Epstein case.
The committee has not disclosed further details on the scope of the depositions or specific questions to be posed to the individuals named.
