U.S. Plans Washington Meeting of Trump-Led ‘Board of Peace’ on Gaza Reconstruction
First leaders’ summit set for February 19 as part of efforts to advance ceasefire implementation and mobilise support for Gaza’s recovery
The White House is preparing to host the inaugural leaders’ meeting of the ‘Board of Peace’ in Washington on February 19, a move aimed at advancing reconstruction and governance arrangements in the Gaza Strip under the ceasefire framework agreed late last year.
The meeting, reportedly in early planning stages, is expected to take place at the U.S. Institute of Peace and will bring together heads of state and senior officials from countries participating in the board, which was established by U.N. Security Council authorisation and is chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Prior to the summit, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet President Trump at the White House on February 18, highlighting the diplomatic coordination underpinning the initiative.
Officials involved in planning described the session as both a strategic leaders’ forum and a fundraising conference to secure financial commitments for rebuilding Gaza, which has suffered extensive destruction and humanitarian needs since late 2023. Trump has characterised the Board of Peace as a vehicle for supervising temporary governance and reconstruction in Gaza and, according to supporters, for addressing broader global conflicts in the future.
Reactions among governments have been cautious, with some traditional Western allies declining invitations while several Middle Eastern partners have accepted, reflecting varied perspectives on the board’s mandate and structure.
As preparations continue, organisers emphasise that details including attendance and agenda are still being finalised and could evolve ahead of the scheduled February gathering.
