Bomb-Threat Evacuation Forces Ground Stop at Washington’s Reagan Airport

United Airlines flight from Houston prompts suspension of operations at critical Washington, D.C. airport for about an hour
Operations at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) were temporarily suspended on Tuesday after a bomb threat targeted United Airlines Flight 512 from Houston.

The Boeing 737 touched down at around 11:20 a.m. Eastern Time and was immediately directed to a remote stand prior to passengers disembarking and being bused to the terminal.

Federal agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Capital Response Squad and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) led a sweep of the aircraft and surrounding area, finding no hazardous materials.

According to the FAA, operations resumed at about 1:30 p.m. ET after the ground stop was lifted.

The University’s data-tracking service indicated more than three hundred flights, roughly thirty-seven per cent of traffic at DCA, experienced delays as a result of the interruption.

Typical departure delays were fifty-one minutes, with some exceeding two hours.

The incident occurred amidst broader strain on the U.S. air-traffic system, including staffing pressures linked to the continuing federal government shutdown.

The originating United flight carried eighty-nine passengers and six crew members, according to airline and airport statements, though one report cited ninety-five on board.

Passengers were safely escorted off the aircraft and placed in the terminal where authorities conducted further checks before allowing normal operations to resume.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy publicly thanked the law-enforcement agencies for their swift response, and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority convened with partners to brief airlines and travellers about potential residual disruptions.

While tax-demand hoax elements remain part of the case (some sources cite a cryptocurrency demand of five hundred thousand dollars), law-enforcement officials have not yet confirmed the underlying motive.

The matter remains under active investigation.

This event underscores the sensitivity of the Washington, D.C., air-space and the priority placed on rapid response to credible threats, especially at one of the region’s busiest and most security-critical hubs.
