Elon Musk's X Corporation Appeals Dismissal of Lawsuit Against Center for Countering Digital Hate: Free Speech or Silencing Critics?
Elon Musk's company, X, filed an appeal with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals after a federal judge dismissed X's lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH).
The lawsuit was dismissed on March 25, with Judge Charles Breyer stating that it was clear X had sued CCDH to silence critics and punish them for their speech regarding hate speech on Twitter, once owned by X.
Elon Musk, the third-richest person in the world and the new owner of Twitter, bought the social media platform for $44 billion in 2022.
Previously, Musk had advocated for free speech, but a research group, the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), was reportedly scaring advertisers away from Twitter, resulting in significant revenue loss.
The appeal of Musk's decision to buy Twitter could last several months or more.
