Google Downsizes Python Team: Report of Layoffs Affecting AI/ML Developers
Google has reportedly let go of its entire Python team, which is used extensively in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, according to affected employees on social media.
However, Google has not confirmed eliminating the team entirely, but has replaced them with a new group based in Munich.
Other teams at Google, including Flutter and Dart, have also experienced layoffs.
Google is making internal changes to become more efficient and reduce bureaucracy, according to a Google spokesperson, Alex Garcia-Kummert.
Some users have speculated that these changes may be in response to Google looking for cheaper options outside of the US.
However, Garcia-Kummert stated that Google is investing in its priorities and making adjustments to better position the company for opportunities ahead.
These changes include simplifying structures and removing layers to allow employees to focus on innovative projects and the company's biggest priorities.
Google's Dart and Flutter language team experienced layoffs, affecting many teams and individuals, including software engineer Matt Hu, who had worked there for two years.
